It took two days of dirty, exhausting work to remove this outer section of the hull. Using an angle grinder with an abrasive wheel I cut through the outer layer of glass in a 4" checker pattern then pried the pieces of fiberglass off the Airex core with a crow bar--truly an impressive testimony to the tenaciousness of this construction technique. Here you can also see the 20:1 scarf ground into the hull where it will be overlapped by new fiberglass. The final lay-up carried the new glass any additional 24" out over the original hull.
